Nia Johnson, Founder & Executive Director
Nia “Nebula” Johnson. is the founder of Camp Atlas and a former foster youth who spent nearly two decades in the foster care system. Her earliest experiences at summer camp and later in Yosemite through Sacred Rok shaped a lifelong connection to nature as a source of healing, reflection, and belonging. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Africana Studies with a focus on Afro Literature from San Francisco State University, grounding her work in cultural history, storytelling, and liberation-centered practice. With years of experience as a camp counselor, retreat leader, and program manager, Nia is committed to making outdoor and healing-centered experiences accessible to foster youth and BIPOC communities. Camp Atlas was born from her belief that when young people are given intentional space in nature and community, they discover who they are and what they’re capable of.
